Il Cascinone Leccio Monferrato Chiaretto, 2017
An appealing and characterful single estate Chiaretto, produced mainly from Pinot Noir grown on the La Quercia vineyard on Araldica's Il Cascinone estate. This s distinguished by a large solitary Holm oak tree (or Leccio) which gives it's name to the wine. This species is often found in Piemonte truffle orchards, where the truffles grow around the tree roots.
60% Pinot Nero, 40% Barbera
|How it's made||
Grapes were sourced from the Quercia vineyard at Il Cascinone, which produces some of the freshest, most fragrant Pinot Noir on the estate. Pinot Noir was harvested at the start of September and Barbera in the 3rd week of September. The grapes were cool-fermented separately at 61ºF. After around five months on lees the parcels were blended, a month before bottling.
The nose has pretty cherry, raspberry and gently floral notes. The palate balances delicate bitter cherry and red berry fruit with crisp, incisive acidity – a refreshing style of rosé with texture and minerality.
A good match with basil, goats cheese risotto or pasta with seafood sauce and cherry tomatoes.
