- Old documents proof that Eberbach Monastery has been holding vineyards in the area of Rauenthal since the early 13th century. There are documents of Baiken from 1900 according which was acquired by the Prussian government for 1.12 million gold marks. The name Baiken derives from the term "bend", as the site lies in a bend.The steep south-facing slope experiences optimal sunlight due to its up to 60% incline, which causes it to warm up slightly. Medium to deep - stony, mostly lime-free - soils are composed of weathered slate, phyllites, quartzites and loess loam.
