A document from 1390 testifies to the early ownership of the vineyard in the ?Marckinborn?, which makes it one of the oldest monastic vineyards. In 1726, the location was considered synonymous with the finest Rheingau wines. The name is derived from the neoclassical fountain located on the border between Hattenheim and Erbach. The location is south facing and has a slope of up to 25%.The clay marl soils are deep and calcareous. ? The grapes come from the most valuable plots of our VDP.GROSSE LAGE(R) sites. The vineyards were already considered in the oldest single vineyard classification map in the world from 1867. ? Intensive quality work allows the grapes to ripen perfectly during the growing season. ? They are selectively harvested by hand with a maximum yield of 50 hl/ha. ? The careful vinification to dry top wines takes place in our cabinet cellar. ? The commercialisation of these "Qualitat-" and "Pradikat" wines begins at the earliest on the 1st of September of the year following the harvest. For our Pinot Noir earliest two years following the harvest.
