About the Region
The capital of the Veneto is Venice however most of the wines produced tend to center around Verona. As "Delle Venezie" it incorporates Friuli Venezia-Giulia, Alto Adige and Trentino.
The Veneto is the 8th largest region in Italy and the 5th most populated but number one when it comes to the production of DOC wine and is responsible for one of the most popular, sparkling wines currently being produced anywhere – Prosecco!
While more red wine is produced in the region than white, it’s better known for white and sparkling wines than its red. There are many household names produced in the area however, with the exception of Pinot Grigio, those names are not the name of the grapes used to produce them. Soave is predominantly Garganega, Prosecco is Glera and Valpolicella is a blend of Corvina, Rondinella and Molinara.
The wines from this region are many and you could spend a life-time playing and learning... and we didn’t even talk about food!!
