About the Region

Pavia borders Piemonte, is south of Milan and is Lombardy’s western province. All the wine-growing vineyards tend to be on the south side of the Po River. The DOC for the region is Oltrepo Pavese while the IGT is Provincia di Pavia. The Oltrepo accounts for more than half of Lombardy’s production.

The red wines of the area are dominated by Sangiovese and Barbera with Pinot Nero (Pinot Noir) also being grown; with the white wines being Pinot Grigio, although Moscato and Riesling are gaining in popularity.
